Ariel Capital Management, the Chicago-based SRI mutual fund company has appointed Peter Thompson, senior vice president, director of institutional marketing and client service--a newly created position.

"I will be overseeing all institutional marketing and consulting relationships," Thompson said.

He also said he will emphasize marketing the mid-cap product and focus on developing relationships with the general client with a bias towards the mid-West.

"The separate accounts world is the way things are going. Institutions are getting into commingled funds and leading with that is becoming the trend," Thompson added.

Thompson, 31, will be reporting to John Rogers, president and Mellody Hobson, senior vice president.
