IXIS Asset Management Group has named Jeremiah Chafkin president and chief executive officer of the firm's US operations, a newly created position. He will report to Peter Voss, president and chief executive officer of the Boston-based firm.

In his new role, Chafkin will oversee the firm's asset management operations in the US and Asia. Voss will remain as CEO of the global operations of the firm.

Most recently, Chafkin was executive vice president of client portfolio solutions at Schwab Investor Services, where he was responsible for the investment advice the firm provides to clients. Prior to that, he headed other units at Schwab, including the private client business. He earlier served as chief executive officer of structured management at Bankers Trust Company.

Last month, IXIS renamed its North American operations to IXIS Asset Management US Group. It was previously known as IXIS Asset Management North America.
